Kaye is one half of the performance / production team Cosa Nostra, which, though hailing from Singapore and being relatively unknown, have made headway in the international scene with their productions being played out by big names, as well as having their remixes featured on compilations alongside the heavyweights in the underground scene.
Arguably the first, and one of the very few musicians to be regularly featured in clubs and dance music festivals alongside DJs and electronic musicians in the Singapore club scene, Kaye is equally comfortable in a live band setup as he is being surrounded by computers, DJ equipment, electronic gadgets and instruments. This diversity has led him to being an impromptu sessionist for live club acts such as DJ Vadim & the Russian Percussion (with Mr Thing and Yarah Bravo), Reel People Sessions and whichever other international act landing on Singaporean shores requiring a horn player. He has also played alongside many other producers and DJs during their sets – Basic Soul Unit, Linkwood, Motor City Drum Ensemble, Kerri Chandler, Kyoto Jazz Massive, Russ Dewbury, Nik Weston, Pablo Valentino…yeah those guys.
His experience in the underground has not gone unnoticed in slightly more mainstream mediums, and this has led him to being booked by high end fashion houses for their parties – from Louis Vuitton to Gucci, Chanel to Christian Dior and beyond – and international events such as Beijing Olympics (2008), Singapore Grand Prix, Zoukout, and the Volvo Ocean Race.
A new direction for Kaye is re-branding himself as a full fledged electronic musician, combining live sax (acoustic as well as electric), electronics, and MPC style beats all by himself with a maddening display of finger action and intense vibes. The international debut at Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide Festival Sessions in Singapore in 2010 was a hit…but no resting there. An expansion of the format is currently in progress, to include more musicians, DJs and other producers, all live on stage.
Influenced by all things soulful, jazzy and deep, Kaye is, in his own way, bringing to, and interpreting these related genres for the dancefloor. From Hip Hop to abstract beats to House, Disco / Boogie and beyond, it doesn’t matter if it’s his live set, DJ set, or on his trusty sax. Nothing is too far out for him to grab.
